As Director of Faculty Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging, Nakia will serve as a member of the Dean of the Faculty Office staff collaborating with the Dean and Associate Dean and the ombuds to continue, and deepen, work on equity and full participation and to develop policies, practices, and interventions, which reflect and intentionally promote best practices in creating inclusive communities that aim to improve the sense of belonging of faculty from minoritized identities and/or cultures. Nakia’s work will focus on studying and addressing equity, access, and inclusion in the culture and practices of the division of academic affairs–most specifically in classrooms and departments, and faculty committees. In addition, she will collaborate with the DEI Division to fully realize and implement the Institutional Equity and Inclusion Action Plan goals on Curriculum, Teaching, and the Faculty Experience and the Anti- Racist Education and Action.
Hamlett's long-term areas of research include child, adolescent, and young adult mental health; complex trauma; ethnic minority and underserved populations; child development and developmental psychopathology; personality disorders; psychological assessment; clinical risk assessment and management; and positive behavioral support plans.
Hamlett has received several awards: Outstanding Teacher of the Year Award, Psychology Section, Department of Psychiatry, Yale University School of Medicine (2015); Early Career Initiative Award, Division 39, American Psychological Association (2015); and the Division 39 Scholars Award, Division 39, American Psychological Association (2015).
Hamlett has previously taught courses that include Introduction to Psychotherapy, Topics in Inpatient Mental Health Care, Introduction to Counseling, Abnormal Psychology, Child Behavioral Disorders, Psychology of Human Development and Psychology of Human Sexuality.
