Books and Borrowing Privileges

The Charles E. Shain Library holds nearly 500,000 books, 11,000 e-journals, 200,000 government documents, and over 1,000,000 e-books. OneSearch is our online catalog that facilitates easy search and borrowing. Faculty have access to millions of books through interlibrary loan and may borrow books for the entire academic year. For information on ILL services, contact Jana Pietrzyk, Interlibrary Loan Specialist (jpietrzyk@conncoll.edu).

Articles and Databases

Use the library's research databases to find citations to journal articles, book reviews, book chapters, essays, and other documents. Some databases provide citations only; others also provide full text. Our journal search allows you to search for journal by title or ISSN.

Course Reserves

The Library's Course Reserves Service allows instructors to set aside books, films, or sound recordings for class use, or make articles or book excerpts electronically available through OneSearch. For help with Reserves, contact Jennifer Bennett, Assistant Manager of Access Services (wbennett@conncoll.edu).

Library Liaisons

Research and instruction librarians assist with scholarship support, developing research assignments that meet information literacy goals and incorporate library resources, facilitating acquisitions for the library collection, and answering any other questions you may have. Open Educational Resources (OER)

To lower the cost of learning materials for students, the College funds grants for faculty to convert courses using traditional textbooks to open educational materials. An OER Grant encourages creation of open educational resources that can be shared widely at the College and with higher-education institutions world-wide. For information on the OER initiative see the libguide Open Educational Resources at Connecticut College.
