Women’s Sailing places 14th at Nationals
The No. 15 ranked Connecticut College women’s sailing team finished 14th at the 2018 Sperry College Sailing Women’s National Championship, hosted by Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.
The Camels, in their first national championship appearance since 2013, accumulated 402 points across two divisions during the four-day event.
“It was great to see our women's sailing team competing at the highest level,” said Connecticut College Athletic Director Fran Shields. “A top 15 finish was impressive considering the conditions and competition."
Division A was led by skipper Charlotte List ’18 and crew Gwynie Dunlevy ’20. The pair, with support from skipper Emilia Clementi ’18 and crew Katie Rodger ’20, finished 17th in the division. List and Dunlevy also captured the Camels’ lone race victory in the championship round.
Division B was represented by skipper Alexandra Maurillo ’18 and crew Paige Dunlevy ’20, along with Rodger and skipper Haley Kachmar ’18. The group placed 11th in the division, with Maurillo and Dunlevy finishing fifth place or better in three races.
“We competed well,” said head coach Jeff Bresnahan. “Gwynie and Katie crewed for [List] in different conditions and led us to good finishes throughout. Allie and Paige had a solid year; when we needed a good race, they produced.
“Our four seniors will remember this [national championship appearance] for a long time.”
