Dancer and choreographer Raja Feather Kelly ’09 was a student at Conn when he first saw the 1975 film “Dog Day Afternoon,” he told The New York Times. The film—and Kelly’s reaction to it—inspires Kelly’s new live dance-theater documentary, “Wednesday,” which opens this week at New York Live Arts.

Rodmon Cedric King, currently the chief diversity and inclusion officer at the State University of New York at Oswego, has been named the next dean of institutional equity and inclusion at Connecticut College. He will begin his new role Jan. 31.

11/18/2021 - Connecticut College sees 17% increase in student voting rate
Connecticut College saw 77% voter participation in 2020—a 17% increase over 2016—according to a report from the Institute for Democracy & Higher Education (IDHE). This distinction is in addition to the College winning the 2020 ALL IN to Vote challenge for the highest percentage of the student body pledged to vote, placing Conn fifth in the nation and first in NESCAC.

11/15/2021 - Professor Daniel Maser awarded American Chemical Society grant for broadband laser research
Assistant Professor of Physics Daniel Maser has been awarded a $55,000 Undergraduate New Investigator (UNI) grant from the American Chemical Society Petroleum Research Fund (ACS PRF). The grant will support his research into using broadband laser sources, known as optical frequency combs, to precisely measure a group of rotational transitions in benzene, a common hydrocarbon and solvent.

Connecticut College Professor of History Sarah A. Queen has been awarded a $199,959 grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities to translate two of the world’s earliest written commentaries on the Confucian classic Chunqiu, or “Spring and Autumn Annals.”

09/10/2021 - Conn remembers James A. Greenleaf Jr. ’91 on the 20th anniversary of Sept. 11, 2001
Sept. 11, 2021 marks 20 years since the terrorist attacks carried out by al-Qaeda killed 2,977 people. It also marks 30 years since James A. Greenleaf ’91 graduated from Conn. Greenleaf, a foreign currency trader at the World Trade Center, died in the attacks on the Twin Towers.
