In 2017, the Office of Sustainability and the Environmental Model Committee collaborated to collect data and assess our current status in a range of areas related to sustainability. We submitted these data to the Sustainability Tracking, Assessment and Rating System (STARS) of the Association for the Advancement of Sustainability in Higher Education (AASHE). Connecticut College achieved a Silver rating for our first report in March 2018.
In July 2021, Connecticut College achieved a Gold rating for our second STARS report. We were able to increase our score by almost 20 points in three years by developing new sustainability initiatives and working with departments across campus on deeper data collection. The College re-submitted for another rating in March 2024 and achieved another Gold rating. Read our most recent STARS report here.
STARS is a comprehensive look at campus sustainability across 5 areas: Academics, Engagement, Operations, Planning & Administration and Innovation & Leadership. Conn was recognized in the 2018 Sustainable Campus Index for our Lending Library textbook rental program and in the 2022 Sustainable Campus Index for our Social Difference and Power course requirement.
